Case Description
In the occupied Donetsk region, a criminal case on mercenary activities was opened against Georgian citizen Giorgi Gogadze no later than November 2022. According to the Russian investigation, in 2022 Gogadze signed a contract and joined the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces as a mercenary. He underwent military training and was provided with personal firearms, ammunition, and other means of logistical support necessary for participation in armed conflict. For monetary compensation, Gogadze, following orders from his superiors, participated in combat operations against the security forces of the DNR and LNR, as well as against military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. At the request of the investigation, the court placed Gogadze in custody in absentia. He was placed on the international wanted list. On June 30, 2025, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk Republic found Giorgi Gogadze guilty and sentenced him in absentia to 14 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict regime penal colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
