Case Description
In the city of Bugulma, Republic of Tatarstan, no later than December 2024, a criminal case was opened against 70-year-old activist of the Tatar national movement, Fazil Valiahmetov, for repeated 'discrediting the army' and calls for terrorism. The reason for initiating criminal prosecution was publications on VKontakte: an article justifying terrorism was charged to Valiyakhmetov due to the posting of a video address from the "Freedom of Russia" legion to Russians, and repeated discrediting of the army due to five anti-war posts in the Tatar language. Among other things, the man wrote: 'Why do people kill others or die themselves in wars? Not enough to eat? No clothes? Not enough land? Don't want to raise, educate children? Don't want to live in pleasure on a pension? Or maybe there's not enough brains in your head. December 5, 2024, the Bugulminsky City Court of Tatarstan placed the man in custody. Previously, on 15 December 2023, he was fined in a case of an administrative offense under the article on discrediting the Russian army.
