Case Description
1. On May 11, 2023, in the city of Usinsk, Komi Republic, an unknown person threw a bottle with an incendiary mixture at the building of the FSB department. The bottle hit the window frame and caught fire. The area of the fire was approximately one and a half square meters, as a result of the arson, part of the window and walls of the building were slightly damaged. Three days after the arson, on May 14, security forces detained a local 29-year-old resident, Yevgeny Zabolotny. He was accused of terrorism. The next day, on May 15, the Usinsk City Court sent him to a pre-trial detention center. The man admitted guilt in committing the arson, but did not agree with the qualification of his action as terrorism. On December 12, 2023, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Yevgeny Zabolotny guilty and sentenced him to 12 years of imprisonment. He must spend the first three years in prison, the rest of the term - in a strict regime colony. On May 22, 2024, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
