Case Description
In March 2023, in Moscow, a US citizen, former chairman of the board of directors of GK "Medpolymerprom" Gene (Yevgeny) Spector, was detained on charges of espionage. According to the FSB, the American "collected medical data to create a system in the USA for genetic screening of the Russian population." Lefortovo District Court of Moscow sent Spector into custody. Earlier, the American was sentenced to 3.5 years in a strict regime colony and a fine of more than 14 million rubles in a case of mediation in giving a bribe in a particularly large amount. On December 24, 2024, the Moscow City Court found Jin Spector guilty and sentenced him to 13 years in a strict regime colony. Summing up with the previous sentence in the bribery case, the court imposed a final punishment of 15 years in a strict regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
