Case Description
In Sterlitamak, Republic of Bashkortostan, at the beginning of April 2024 (the exact date is unknown), a criminal case was opened for repeated "discrediting of the army" against a 35-year-old local resident, Evgeny Shepelev. The reason for the criminal prosecution was three posts on VKontakte and comments in Telegram, which, in the opinion of law enforcement officers, discredit the Russian army." No information was provided about the choice of a preventive measure. Earlier, in August 2023, the man was brought to administrative responsibility under the article on discrediting the RF Armed Forces. In Sterlitamak, at the beginning of November 2023, a criminal case was opened for 'fakes' about the Russian army against 35-year-old local resident Yevgeny Shepelev." According to the investigation, on September 16, 2022, Shepelev posted on his page on the social network VKontakte a publication stating that "in Izium, the occupiers committed a massacre comparable to Bucha. A search was conducted at Shepelev's home, during which his equipment and "documents with the symbols of the extremist organization 'Citizens of the USSR'" were seized. He was placed under a written undertaking not to leave as a measure of restraint. On March 20, 2024, the Sterlitamak City Court of the Republic of Bashkortostan found Yevgeny Shepelev guilty and sentenced him to 5 months of correctional labor with a deduction of 5% of his salary to the state." On June 11, 2024, the Supreme Court of Bashkortostan upheld the verdict. In October 2024, it became known that Shepelev managed to leave Russia for France. In June 2025, the man was put on the wanted list.
