Case Description
In annexed Sevastopol, in July 2024, a 42-year-old Ukrainian citizen, Yevhen Melnychuk, was detained on charges of espionage. According to the Russian investigation, Melnichuk arrived from Kyiv to the Republic of Crimea, where from December 2021 to October 2022 he collected and transmitted to an employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine information about the locations and movements of personnel and equipment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the city of Sevastopol and on the territory of the Republic of Crimea. The defendant was chosen a measure of restraint in the form of detention."] 29 November 2024, the Supreme Court of Crimea found Yevgeny Melnichuk guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in a strict regime penal colony. On May 13, 2025, the Third Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction changed the verdict, details are unknown.
