Case Description
In Chelyabinsk, no later than September 2023, a criminal case was opened against 29-year-old local resident Evgeny Melikhov. He was accused of public calls for terrorist activity and justification of terrorism on the Internet. According to the investigation, on September 9, 2023, Yevgeny Melikhov posted a comment in a Telegram channel under a news publication "related to the conduct of the SVO." 2. The publication was seen as support for Ukraine, and a linguistic examination found in it a call to commit a crime of a terrorist nature. The case materials indicate that the comment was related to mobilization. It is unknown exactly what Melikhov wrote. The court sent the case suspect to the pre-trial detention center. On June 27, 2024, the Central Military District Court found Evgeny Melikhov guilty and sentenced him to 5.5 years in a general regime penal colony. On December 16, 2024, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged.
