Case Description
On the night of August 14, 2023, in the city of Azov, Rostov region, at the building of the Azov district administration, police officers detained 20-year-old Yevgeny Ivanov, a resident of the Lipetsk region. It is alleged that he had four bottles with an incendiary mixture on him. The young man was taken to the police station, where a protocol on an administrative offense under the article on petty hooliganism was drawn up against him. On August 15, 2023, Judge Elena Aleshkina of the Azov City Court of the Rostov Region sent Ivanov to administrative arrest for 7 days. While the man was serving his sentence, a criminal case was opened against him for attempted terrorism by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, illegal manufacture of explosives, and participation in a terrorist organization. According to the investigation, Ivanov attempted to set fire to the building of the Azov district administration in the Rostov Oblast on the orders of certain Ukrainian clients, who promised Evgeny monetary compensation for the arson. For the duration of the investigation, the defendant was sent to a pre-trial detention center. On April 17, 2025, the Southern District Military Court found Yevgeny Ivanov guilty and sentenced him to 13 years in a strict regime colony with the first 3 years to be served in prison. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
