Case Description
In the occupied Kherson region, no later than March 2023 (the exact date is unknown), two 19-year-old local residents, Ukrainian citizens Yevgeny Hess and Danila Miroshnichenko, were detained. During a search, they allegedly found and seized an explosive substance weighing more than 21 kilograms, as well as means and devices for its activation and operation. The Ukrainians were accused of preparing for sabotage and illegal storage of explosives or explosive devices. According to the version of the Russian security forces, between December 2022 and March 2023, the young men, acting on the instructions of an employee of the Security Service of Ukraine, planned to commit sabotage by blowing up one of the railway infrastructure facilities located in the Genichesk district of the Kherson region. Both young men were sent to a pre-trial detention center. No later than August 2024, the Kherson Regional Court found Yevgeny Hess and Danila Miroshnichenko guilty and sentenced Hess to 8.5 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict regime correctional colony, and Miroshnichenko to 5 years of imprisonment to be served in a general regime correctional colony. On September 3, 2024, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the verdict unchanged.
