Case Description
In July 2023, in Berdsk, Novosibirsk Oblast, 51-year-old local resident Yevgeny Burago was detained on suspicion of attempting to set fire to a military enlistment office. The local prosecutor's office is also located in the same building. According to the investigation, on July 19, 2023, around 7:15 PM, Burago rode his scooter with gasoline previously purchased and poured into a bottle to the building of the military commissariat in Berdsk, doused the entrance doors of the military commissariat with gasoline and set them on fire, after which he fled. As a result, the entrance door of the commissariat caught fire, which was quickly extinguished by the guards. No one was hurt. During the investigation, Burago was placed in custody. Earlier on his page on 'Odnoklassniki' Evgeny posted posts criticizing Vladimir Putin, in particular he criticized the voting for amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation in 2020." "15 May 2024, the Berdsk City Court of the Novosibirsk Region found Evgeny Burago guilty and sentenced him to 1 year and 7 months in a penal colony-settlement.
