In Sochi, Krasnodar Krai, no later than February 2023, a criminal case was opened against serviceman Yevgeny Bezverkhov. He was accused of refusing to participate in hostilities. According to the investigation, Bezverkhov on February 1, 2023, during the formation of the personnel of the military unit, refused to comply with the commander's order to leave for the combat zone to perform special tasks. He reiterated his refusal even after management brought him an order to sign. The defendant explained his decision by the presence of a previously received injury, however, the examination confirmed that he had no contraindications to service in terms of health. During the investigation, the defendant was required to sign a pledge not to leave and to behave properly. June 29, 2023, the Sochi Garrison Military Court found Yevgeny Bezverkhov guilty and sentenced him to 2 years and 3 months of imprisonment in a penal colony-settlement. On October 13, 2023, the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Southern District Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
