Case Description
In Kursk in January 2023, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case about "fakes" on the grounds of political hatred against local resident Yevgeny Babin. The reason for the persecution was a video on the YouTube channel "Evgeny Ostrovsky" on March 5, 2022, titled "No War, Guys. According to the investigation, the video contains the following "fakes": - Putin as the supreme commander-in-chief uses prohibited weapons, destroys civilian infrastructure during hostilities on the territory of Ukraine and thus is a terrorist; - Putin threatens people with the use of nuclear weapons; - Russian soldiers do not deserve to be called warriors and have no dignity; - the army of Russia is conducting armed actions against Ukraine and destroying defenseless segments of the population; - the RF Armed Forces protect the property of the ruling class, which contradicts the oath, according to which the army must fulfill its duty to protect the country; - representatives of Russia began armed actions against Ukraine and destroy the civilian population. A written undertaking not to leave was taken from Babin. On February 15, 2024, Judge Irina Zybina of the Lenin District Court of Kursk found Yevgeny Babin guilty and sentenced him to 6 years in a general regime correctional colony and deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to the administration of websites of electronic and information-telecommunication networks, including the Internet, for 4 years." Babin did not appear for the announcement of the court's verdict. The court replaced the measure with detention and put him on the wanted list. On May 23, 2024, the Kursk Regional Court left the sentence unchanged.
