A man was detained. He was accused of public calls for extremist activities through the internet. But during the investigation, Konokov was sent to a pre-trial detention center. In June, a criminal case was opened against Konokov for attempted state treason in the form of switching to the enemy's side. According to the investigation, Konokov, having a negative attitude towards the policy pursued by the President of the Russian Federation towards Ukraine, being opposed to the reunification of the Republic of Crimea with the Russian Federation, the self-determination of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, as well as the conduct of the special military operation, immediately after its start, corresponded with a representative of the "Muslim Corps of the Caucasus", participating in hostilities on the side of Ukraine, and intended to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other paramilitary formations of Ukraine, opposing the Russian Federation in the conduct of the special military operation, to participate in hostilities against the Russian Federation. On December 28, 2023, the Supreme Court of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic found Erik Konokov guilty and sentenced him to six years of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to administering websites using information and telecommunications networks, including the Internet, for one year, and with restriction of freedom for one year.
