Case Description
On August 2, 2024, Erik Karimov, a 25-year-old native of Bashkortostan, was detained in Cherkessk. He was accused of treason, preparing a terrorist attack, participating in the activities of a terrorist organization, and undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities. Charges were also brought against him for the illegal circulation and manufacture of explosives, including preparation for their manufacture. According to the investigation, Karimov was recruited by Ukrainian special services through social networks. At the end of July 2024, he arrived in Karachay-Cherkessia, and on August 2, he assembled a homemade bomb with a power of two kilograms in TNT equivalent, intending to blow up the building of the prosecutor's office. He reported on his actions to his curator from the SBU. FSB officers detained a man on his way to the site of a suspected terrorist attack. The man was placed in a pre-trial detention center.
