Case Description
Prior to November 2024, criminal charges of mercenary activity were brought in absentia against Georgian citizen Elnur Eybov in the occupied Donetsk region. According to the Russian investigation, in March 2022, Eybov arrived at the permanent deployment point of the Georgian National Legion and voluntarily joined the legion as a mercenary. He was provided with personal firearms, ammunition, uniforms, and special equipment. On the territory of training bases located in Ukraine, Eibov underwent military training. After that, until November 2024, he participated as a mercenary in combat operations against representatives of the security forces of the Donetsk People's Republic and military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for a reward of more than 2.5 million rubles. The court in absentia chose a measure of restraint in the form of detention. Eibov was placed on the international wanted list. On January 21, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic found Elnur Eybov guilty in absentia and sentenced him to 14 years in a strict regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
