Case Description
In late March 2023, local resident and candidate of legal sciences Elena Rodina was detained in Moscow. She was accused of justifying terrorism. It is unknown what specifically prompted the criminal prosecution. On social networks, Rodina spoke out against Russian aggression in Ukraine, criticized Vladimir Putin's regime, called for the removal of Russian authorities, and also called on Turks to "end the genocide of Armenians" because the propagandist Margarita Simonyan is Armenian. She called herself "the most affected by Putinism" and wrote that other oppositionists were agents of the Russian special services. On March 30, 2023, the Tverskoi District Court of Moscow sent a lawyer to a pre-trial detention center for the duration of the investigation. On July 17, 2023, the 2nd Western Military District Court ruled to terminate criminal prosecution and apply compulsory medical measures to Elena Rodina. On November 1, 2023, the Appellate Military Court upheld this decision.
