Case Description
In Moscow in April 2022, a criminal case was opened on 'fakes' about the Russian army on the grounds of political hatred against municipal deputy of the Krasnoselsky district Elena Kotyonochkina. The reason for initiating a criminal case against the deputy was a discussion by members of the Council of Deputies of the Krasnoselsky municipal district of Moscow at their meeting on March 15, 2022, recorded on video and published on the internet. According to the investigation, Kotenochkina also recorded a video no later than March 16, 2022, about a large number of military personnel serving their mandatory military service who are in the combat zone on the territory of Ukraine." Kotenochkina herself left Russia. On April 29, 2022, she was placed on the international wanted list and arrested in absentia. On July 15, 2024, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow found Elena Kotyonochkina guilty and sentenced her in absentia to 7 years and 6 months in a general regime colony. On December 5, 2024, the Moscow City Court added a 4-year ban on holding government positions to the arrest.
