Case Description
In Moscow in November 2022, a criminal case was opened against Moscow politician and former municipal deputy Elena Filina on charges of "fakes about the army" motivated by political hatred. According to the investigation, on the night of April 2-3, 2022, Filina posted on Facebook about the events in Bucha and Irpin with the words: "Bucha and Irpin - there is real fascism and Nazism, a crime against humanity committed by Russian soldiers on Putin's orders. With this post, the former deputy sought to "provoke a wide public response and rejection [of the war in Ukraine] in society." Filina is outside of Russia. She was put on the wanted list. In November 2022, the Kuntsevo District Court of Moscow issued a decision on Filina's in absentia arrest. On August 21, 2024, a search was conducted at the son of Filina's house. Law enforcement officers confiscated all his equipment. 6 March 2025, the Kuntsevo District Court of Moscow found Elena Filina guilty and sentenced her in absentia to 8 years in a general regime penal colony.
