Case Description
19 March 2024, two employees of the Russian special services stopped a local 27-year-old resident, Ukrainian citizen Ekaterina Korovina, when she took a photo on her phone on the street in her native village in the occupied Luhansk region. She was forced to get into the car, her phone was confiscated and access to its contents was obtained. Later, Korovin was released. Several months later, on June 10, 2024, the FSB allegedly conducted a warrantless search of Korovina's home and recorded her arbitrary detention on video. A criminal case was opened against the Ukrainian woman for financing extremist activities and terrorism. According to the Russian investigation, Korovina allegedly transferred funds to an unidentified bank account. It is claimed that the money went to finance the 'Right Sector', the 'Aidar' battalion and the 'Azov' brigade. The woman was sent to a pre-trial detention center. During her detention, Korovina was subjected to torture and threats against her family aimed at obtaining a false confession. Members of her family, including her mother, father, brother, and aunt, were questioned as prosecution witnesses. After the woman's arrest, her father passed away. On February 17, 2025, the Southern District Military Court found Ekaterina Korovina guilty and sentenced her to 10 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony.
