Case Description
In late April 2023, the FSB detained 17-year-old Egor Kim in the Kaluga region. According to the security forces, he was preparing to set fire to a local power plant. In the cache arranged by the detained young man, three homemade incendiary devices were allegedly discovered, communication devices and instructions for making such devices were seized. It is noted that the detainee is a supporter of neo-Nazism. In a video published by the FSB, the detainee stated that his curator was a representative of the 'Russian Volunteer Corps'. A criminal case was initiated against the teenager for preparing sabotage and he was sent to a pre-trial detention center. Later, the charges were toughened: the sabotage was reclassified as preparation for a terrorist attack, and an article on undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities was added. On November 8, 2023, the 2nd Western District Military Court found Egor Kim guilty and sentenced him to 6 years in a correctional colony. On January 22, 2024, the Appellate Military Court changed the verdict, justifying the change by incorrectly applying criminal law. Details are unknown.
