Case Description
In Makhachkala at the end of March 2022, a 51-year-old local resident, activist, former head of Navalny's headquarters and coordinator of the 'Voice' movement Eduard Atayev was detained. During the detention, security forces put a bag over his head, wrapped him in tape, and then forcibly placed items resembling a pistol grip and a grenade in his hands. During a search at his home, a pistol, a grenade, and drugs were found. Atayeva was accused of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, as well as illegal possession of drugs." According to law enforcement officials, the activist kept at home a pistol without marking signs, assembled from parts and components of a pneumatic gas-cylinder pistol MP-654K, a traumatic gas pistol, and homemade barrel and bolt, 25 rounds for an AK-47 and a Makarov pistol, a hand grenade RDG-5 without a number with a detonator, and 45.27 grams of marijuana. On March 27, 2022, the Khasavyurt District Court of the Republic of Dagestan sent Atayev into custody. 22 November 2023, the judge of Khasavyurt District Court Sultan Azizov found Eduard Ataev guilty and sentenced him to 6 years 6 months in a general regime colony. On October 29, 2024, the Supreme Court of Dagestan upheld the sentence.
