Case Description
In Volgograd, no later than January 2025, 38-year-old local resident Dmitry Zhuravlev was detained. He was accused of confidential cooperation with a foreign state to the detriment of the Russian Federation and calls for terrorism. According to the investigation, on May 3, 2023, Zhuravlyov called representatives of a Ukrainian organization controlled by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. During the conversation, he received instructions to switch to a messenger for covert communication. On May 4, 2023, in correspondence, he expressed his readiness for confidential cooperation and the execution of any assignments. In early August 2024, he was tasked with publicly justifying the activities of Ukrainian terrorist organizations, which he did on August 10, 2024, by posting a corresponding comment online. It is unknown what exactly the man wrote. For the duration of the investigation, the court placed the defendant in a pre-trial detention center. On 29 October 2025, the Southern Military District Court found Dmitry Zhuravlyov guilty and sentenced him to 7 years' imprisonment in a general regime colony.
