Case Description
In Murmansk in October 2022, a criminal case was opened against military serviceman Senior Lieutenant Dmitry Vasilets in connection with his refusal to participate again in military actions on the territory of Ukraine." "According to the investigation, Vasilets, being healthy and fit for military service, having no medical restrictions for the execution of the order, in the presence of an objective opportunity to execute it, acting intentionally, realizing the nature of his actions, refused to execute it, and thus refused to participate in hostilities. Vasil'tsa was placed under a written undertaking not to leave during the investigation. On April 7, 2023, the Zaozersky Garrison Military Court found Dmitry Vasilets guilty and sentenced him to 2 years and 5 months in a penal colony-settlement, leaving him under house arrest until the sentence entered into legal force. June 1, 2023, the Northern Fleet Military Court mitigated the punishment, reducing the prison term by three months. In October 2024, Dmitry Vasilev was released on parole.
