Case Description
On February 22, 2023, security forces detained local resident Dmitry Vashchenok in Tolyatti. He was accused of repeated 'discrediting the Russian army' and taken into custody with a travel ban. Details of the criminal case against the unknown person are not available — the lawyer from OVD-Info Zakhar Lebedev signed a non-disclosure agreement. Earlier, in August 2022, Vashchenka was fined 15 and 30 thousand rubles under an administrative article on discrediting the Russian army: in the first case, it was about a video that told about the trial in Ukraine of Russian tanker Vadim Shishimarin, accused of killing a Ukrainian pensioner, in the second - about a video from the Ukrainian TV channel ICTV, dedicated to the looting of Russian military personnel. In June, the court sent Vashchenok to a psychiatric hospital for an examination. In September, the Togliatti Psychoneurological Dispensary attempted to forcibly hospitalize a man through the court, but the court refused: the psychiatrist who participated in the hearing explained that the accused did not need inpatient treatment. On February 15, 2024, the Investigative Department of the Tolyatti UVD terminated the criminal prosecution of Dmitry Vashchenko due to the absence of a crime.
