Case Description
In Chita, no later than January 2025, a criminal case was opened against 45-year-old Dmitry Taygin, who had a prior criminal record, for calls for terrorism and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization. According to the investigation, from May 1 to June 30, 2024, while serving his sentence in the IK-15 Correctional Colony of the GUFSIN of Russia for the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Taigin publicly stated in conversations with other convicts that he recognized the ideology of the "Azov" organization as correct and called for the implementation of terrorist activities, including violent actions against Russians. Cases involving calls for terrorism and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization were separated into separate proceedings. The measure of restraint was not chosen for the case participant. On April 8, 2025, the 2nd Eastern Military District Court found Dmitry Taigin guilty and sentenced him to 3 years of imprisonment, with the first 1.5 years to be served in prison, and the remaining part in a strict regime correctional colony. In combination with the verdict of the Ostankino District Court of Moscow dated June 14, 2017, the final punishment was 3 years, 1 month and 6 days of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony. On August 25, 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged. On August 27, 2025, the same 2nd Eastern Military District Court found Dmitry Taigin guilty of participating in a terrorist organization and, by a set of crimes, taking into account the first two sentences in the case of murder and propaganda of terrorism, sentenced him to 14 years in prison. For the first 3 years of his sentence, he must spend time in prison, and the remaining part - in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
