Case Description

IN MAY 2023, A CRIMINAL CASE WAS INITIATED AGAINST RESIDENT OF IVANOVO DMITRY SILIN FOR "DISCREDITING THE RUSSIAN ARMY" FOR THE SECOND TIME. The reason was a comment under a news post in the Telegram channel "IvanovoNEWS | Bars" about the unveiling of memorial plaques on the wall of a local school in honor of graduates - military personnel who died in Ukraine: "The names of murderers should not be hung in schools. School directors — fear God. You're more afraid of crazy Putin. Putin's gang has made you poor and submissive cattle. If you refuse to hang signs with the names of murderers, you will at most be removed from your position as director, but your conscience will remain clear and your children will respect you. Earlier, in May 2022, Silina was fined under an administrative article on discrediting the army. At that time, the reason for the accusation was a denunciation from a pensioner—she reported to the police that Silin had written 'no to war' on the wall of a building. The activist claimed that he did not do this. Since December 2022, Silin himself has been abroad. In the spring of 2022, Silin, together with activist Anastasia Rudenko, distributed more than 600 copies of George Orwell's dystopian novels "1984" and "Animal Farm" and Leo Tolstoy's novella "Hadji Murat" about the Caucasian War to residents of Ivanovo for free." In May 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs put Silin on the wanted list.
