Prokhorenko Dmitriy Aleksandrovich

In the Bryansk region, at the 244 km mark of the Surazh station, around midnight on January 23, 2023, patrol officers discovered smoke coming from the signaling, centralization, and blocking (SCB) cabinet at the crossing. On-site specialists determined that the SCB devices had burned out as a result of interference by outsiders. On the same day, at eight in the evening, on the platform of the Unecha railway station, 25-year-old Dmitry Prokhorenko, a resident of Surazh, was detained. According to the security forces, Prokhorenko, while in a public place, used coarse obscene language in the presence of outsiders, thereby violating public order. A protocol on an administrative offense for petty hooliganism was drawn up against Prokhorenko. The next day, on January 25, Judge Larisa Izotova of the Unecha District Court of the Bryansk Region sent Dmitry under administrative arrest for ten days. Two days later, on January 27, the Soviet District Court of Bryansk considered the petition from the investigative department of the FSB of Russia for the Bryansk Region and chose Prokhorenko's measure of restraint in the form of arrest. He was accused of committing sabotage on a transport infrastructure facility with the aim of undermining the economic security and defense capability of the Russian Federation. According to the security forces, Prokhorenko, acting on assignment from the SBU of Ukraine and guided by instructions given to him, set fire to the relay cabinet belonging to the branch of JSC "RZD," as a result of which the movement of railway trains was temporarily restricted. Later, Prokhorenko was additionally charged with state treason. According to the FSB, Prokhorenko, being an employee of one of the providers of digital services, with the aim of causing damage to the security of the Russian Federation, passed information about the activities of a military unit, which became known to him in the course of performing his official duties in providing communication services, to a Ukrainian armed formation of foreign mercenaries. Subsequently, Prokhorenko, on his own initiative and on assignment from persons from the Ukrainian side, periodically transmitted specially collected information about the location and activities of units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Bryansk Region. On January 30, 2024, the Bryansk Regional Court found Dmitry Prokhorenko guilty and sentenced him to 13 years of imprisonment in a strict regime correctional colony, with the first 2 years and 6 months to be served in prison, a fine of 150 thousand rubles, and a restriction of freedom for 1 year and 6 months. On May 6, 2024, the First Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence in force.
