Case Description
In Orenburg in January 2023, a 29-year-old local resident, IT specialist Dmitry Pikalov, was detained. Initially, he was accused of improper influence on critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation, but then the charge of treason was added to the accusation. According to the investigation, Pikalov established confidential cooperation with representatives of the US special services and provided assistance to a foreign organization in activities directed against the security of the Russian Federation: it is alleged that the man allegedly transferred to representatives of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation the reference and other personal data of military personnel of the Russian Federation. The man was placed in a pre-trial detention center and transferred to Lefortovo in Moscow for the duration of the investigation. December 16, 2024, the Orenburg Regional Court found Dmitry Pikalov guilty and sentenced him to 19 years in a strict regime colony. On April 17, 2025, the Fourth Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction changed the verdict, details are unknown.
