Case Description

In Omsk, at the end of March 2022, FSB officers detained independent deputy of the local city council Dmitry Petrenko. A search was conducted in his apartment. The deputy was accused of spreading false information about the activities of Russian servicemen on the territory of Ukraine. The reason for the criminal prosecution was Petrenko's publications in the Telegram channel about the Russian army destroying Mariupol. The politician also criticized the conduct of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine. The court chose Petrenko a measure of restraint in the form of a ban on certain actions. On August 9, 2023, it became known that Petrenko did not appear for the preliminary hearings in his case. He was put on the wanted list and arrested in absentia. It turned out that Petrenko was able to leave for France. On July 30, 2024, Judge Anastasia Perminova of the Kuybyshev District Court of Omsk found Dmitry Petrenko guilty and sentenced him in absentia to seven years in a general regime colony, and also banned him from administering websites for 4 years. The term of serving the sentence will be calculated from the moment of Petrenko's extradition to the territory of the Russian Federation, or from the moment of his detention on the territory of the Russian Federation. On October 3, 2024, the Omsk Regional Court left the verdict unchanged.
