Case Description
In Yalta, in annexed Crimea, at the end of June 2023, two local residents, Valery Lizun and Dmitry Pastaschuk, were detained. They were accused of cooperating with a foreign state on a confidential basis to the detriment of the Russian Federation. According to the FSB, the detainees reported the situation in Crimea to the SBU and also offered to film military facilities or carry out a terrorist attack. June 27, 2023, the court sent the Crimean to the pre-trial detention center. On June 4, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea found Dmitry Pastaschuk guilty and sentenced him to six years in a general regime penal colony and subsequent restriction of freedom for one year with a fine of 500 thousand rubles. On June 11, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea found Valeriy Lizun guilty and sentenced him to 5 years in a general regime correctional colony and 1 year of restricted freedom. October 9, 2024, the Third Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction upheld Lizun's sentence. On October 22, 2024, the Third Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left Lizun's sentence in force.
