Case Description
In the Bryansk region, no later than October 2023 (the exact date is unknown), 42-year-old resident of the Oryol region Dmitry Mezentsev was detained. A criminal case was opened against him for "treason, aiding terrorism, participating in a terrorist organization, and purchasing explosives via the internet. According to the security forces, the man maintained contact in the messenger with a pro-Ukrainian terrorist organization banned in Russia. The man was tasked with photographing the military enlistment office building as a potential target for terrorist attacks. He sent the photos of the police station to his curator in the organization. Then, allegedly, Mezenin removed explosives from a cache and planned to travel to the city of Starodub in the Bryansk region to receive further instructions. For the duration of the investigation, the man was sent into custody. On June 27, 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Dmitry Mezentsev guilty and sentenced him to 18 years in prison. For the first 4 years, Mezenin must spend in prison, the remaining term - in a strict regime colony. October 21, 2024, the Appellate Military Court left the sentence unchanged.
