Case Description
On September 24, 2024, an unknown person allegedly reported a bomb threat at the Moscow District Court of St. Petersburg. Searches were conducted at activists of the Vesna movement in connection with this case. One of those who was searched was activist Dmitry Martynichev. After the search, he was taken for questioning at the Ministry of Internal Affairs for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, after which he was released under an obligation to appear. On May 2, 2022, around 7 p.m. in the St. Petersburg metro, a conflict occurred between activist Dmitry Martynichev and a passenger: Martynichev reprimanded a young man who had the letter Z on his jacket - a symbol of support for Russian military actions in Ukraine. Other passengers supported the guy with Z on his clothing and called Martynichev a "Ukro-fascist," and a scuffle ensued. Martynichev was detained by metro employees and handed over to the police. The activist was held at Precinct No. 77 for 24 hours, after which he was fined 500 rubles under the article on petty hooliganism and released. The passenger from the metro with whom the conflict occurred filed a complaint against Martynichev. A few months later, in October 2022, security forces came to Martynichev's workplace and took him to Precinct No. 77. He was left alone, and since he was not detained, he returned to work. On October 19, Martynichev himself came to the Admiralteysky District Police Department with a lawyer. He was charged with battery. According to the investigation, Martynichev asked the passenger in the jacket with the letter "Z" patch whether he really supported the conduct of the SMO, and, hearing a positive response, struck him once with his head in the face area, allegedly causing the victim to have a cut eyebrow. Martynichev himself claims that he did not hit the guy, and the cut on the eyebrow was received accidentally "during the scuffle." Martynichev was placed under a written undertaking not to leave during the investigation. On May 16, 2023, a magistrate of Justice of the Peace Court No. 8 of St. Petersburg found Dmitry Martynichev guilty and sentenced him to correctional labor for 6 months with a 5% deduction from his wages conditionally with a probationary period of 6 months. The sentence was not appealed and entered into legal force.
