Case Description
On June 11, 2021, at the 'Maryinka' checkpoint in the occupied Donetsk region, Russian security forces detained 37-year-old Ukrainian citizen and taxi driver Dmitry Kozhukhov. After the Ukrainian was detained, UBOP employees tortured him - they told him that 'they have a bunch of information that the transporters work for the SBU.' Kozhukhov incriminated himself, just to make the torture end sooner. A criminal case was opened against the taxi driver for aiding terrorism. According to the Russian security forces' version, on October 2, 2016, Kozhukhov at the 'Maryinka' checkpoint in the Maryinsky district of the 'DNR' gave consent to a participant in a terrorist community created by employees of the Ukrainian Security Service to provide information about objects on the territory of the 'DNR', and also provided information about the locations of 'DNR' military personnel. On the instructions of a member of a terrorist community, Kozhukhov conducted a photo shoot of a hotel building, which was used for the accommodation of personnel of the "DPR" military servicemen, and forwarded the photographs to the same member of the terrorist community. On October 8, 2024, the Southern District Military Court found Dmitry Kozhukhov guilty and sentenced him to 5 years and 6 months in a general regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force. August 14, 2025, the Ukrainian was released during the next exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine.
