Case Description
On March 12, 2022, in St. Petersburg, 43-year-old local resident, engineer, and father of three children Dmitry Khodin was detained. A criminal case was opened against him on the desecration of burial places. According to the investigation, on March 10, Khodin wrote "No to war!" and "Putin is a fascist!" on the memorial "Mass grave of Soviet Army soldiers who died defending Leningrad in 1941–1943" and the stele "Historical routes of the Petergof and Narva roads." The Krasnoselsky District Court of St. Petersburg placed the man in a pre-trial detention center. 1 April, another episode was added to the case - the investigation stated that on 10 March Khodin painted the stele "Soviet Era" in Polyanka Park with red paint. Later, the charges were reclassified: the defense proved that there are no burials at the site where the inscription was made. Hodina was charged with two episodes of vandalism.
