Case Description
In Moscow in June 2022, a criminal case was opened against writer Dmitry Glukhovsky for spreading knowingly false information about the activities of the Russian armed forces on the territory of Ukraine, motivated by political hatred and "artificially creating evidence of the accusation." According to the investigation, from April 10, 2022 to May 10, 2022, Glukhovsky, being outside the Russian Federation, posted on his personal pages on social networks personal publications in the form of text entries and video clips, edited with artificially created evidence of the accusation, containing under the guise of reliable messages knowingly false information about the alleged deliberate shelling and bombing of residential buildings, schools and hospitals, mass killings of civilians and rape of underage Ukrainian schoolgirls during the special military operation on the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic and Ukraine." Glukhovsky left Russia. MIA announced him wanted. Basmanny District Court of Moscow sentenced Glukhovsky in absentia on May 13, 2022. On August 7, 2023, Judge Natalya Sudar of the Basmanny District Court of Moscow found Dmitry Glukhovsky guilty and sentenced him in absentia to 8 years in a general regime penal colony. The court also deprived Glukhovsky of the right to engage in activities related to website administration for 4 years. On November 28, 2023, the Moscow City Court left the verdict unchanged.
