Case Description
In March 2024, in the Arkhangelsk region, a 19-year-old local resident, student Dmitry Demyan, was detained. The Investigative Department of the RF FSB for the Arkhangelsk Region initiated a criminal case against him. He was accused of attempted sabotage. According to the investigation, Demyan communicated via messengers with representatives of an organization overseen by the special services of another state." On the night of February 20, 2024, following their instructions, he doused the relay and battery cabinets on the Northern Railway with a flammable mixture and attempted to set them on fire, but the fire did not occur. The court sent the case suspect to the pre-trial detention center. LATER, THE CHARGE WAS SEVERIFIED: THE CHARGE OF ATTEMPTING SABOTAGE WAS RECLASSIFIED AS COMMITTED BY A GROUP OF PERSONS, ANOTHER EPISODE OF SABOTAGE WAS ADDED TO HIM, AND A CHARGE OF CONFIDENTIAL COOPERATION WITH A FOREIGN STATE TO THE DETRIMENT OF RUSSIA WAS ADDED." Details are unknown. On May 29, 2025, the Arkhangelsk Regional Court found the student guilty and sentenced him to nine years in a strict regime, but the prosecutor appealed this decision and in the appeal the case was returned for a new consideration with a re-qualification of the charge to confidential cooperation in treason.
