Case Description
In May 2023, 26-year-old local resident Dmitry Demidchik was detained in Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Oblast. He was accused of committing sabotage and treason. According to law enforcement, on the night of May 25, 2023, Demidchik set fire to relay cabinets on the Magnitogorsk-Freight — Kuiba section, and on June 4 of the same year, he attempted to set fire to the local military enlistment office with a flare gun, but was detained. For the duration of the investigation, the defendant was sent to a pre-trial detention center. On February 11, 2025, the Central Military District Court found Dmitry Demidchik guilty and sentenced him to 19 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony, the first 5 years he must spend in prison, the remaining 14 years - in a strict regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
