Case Description
On December 13, 2024, in Yekaterinburg, an unknown young man attempted to set fire to a military enlistment office on Lenin Avenue. The young man took out "Molotov cocktails" from his bag and threw them one by one through the window of the military enlistment office. In total, he managed to throw 4 bottles with a flammable mixture. The fire inside was quickly extinguished, and the fire did not cause any damage to property. Two days later, Dmitry Baranov, a 29-year-old local resident, was detained on charges of arson. He was accused of a terrorist attack. During the interrogation, the young man said that he had become a victim of fraudsters—they stole three million rubles from him and then persuaded him to set fire to the military enlistment office, promising to return the money." An unknown person called him, introducing himself as an FSB officer. He suggested that the Yekaterinburg resident take revenge on the fraudsters - according to him, they were hiding inside the military enlistment office, so the building needed to be set on fire. December 16, 2024, the Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg placed Baranov in custody.
