Case Description
A criminal case was opened against Denis Vorontsov in Volgograd no later than May 2020. He was charged with rehabilitating Nazism and interfering with an investigator’s work to obstruct the investigation of the case.
According to investigators, on May 3, 2020, Vorontsov submitted an application on the “Immortal Regiment Online” website, to which he attached a photograph of Gestapo chief Heinrich Müller, claiming that the photo depicted Gennady Mikhailovsky. Later, on May 16 of the same year, while being questioned at the Investigative Committee building, the suspect secretly retrieved his previously confiscated cell phone from the investigator’s office and, nine days later, deleted all information relevant to the case from it.
For the duration of the investigation, the suspect was required to sign a pledge not to leave the area and to behave appropriately.
On January 11, 2022, the Volgograd Regional Court found Denis Vorontsov guilty, sentenced him to a fine of 300,000 rubles, and ordered the confiscation of his cell phone.
The verdict was not appealed and became final.
