Case Description
In Moscow on February 14, 2021, political scientist Demuri Voronin was detained on charges of treason. He was accused of passing information constituting a state secret to one of the NATO countries, most likely the FRG, since. Voronin has second citizenship of this country and primarily resides in Germany. The details of the charges are unknown. On February 15, 2021, the Lefortovo District Court of Moscow sent Voronin into custody. February 17, 2023, the Moscow City Court found Demuri Voronin guilty and sentenced him to 13 years and 3 months in a strict regime colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force. 1 August 2024, Demuri Voronin was released as part of a prisoner exchange between Germany and Russia.
