Case Description
In the Kaluga region on April 13, 2023, a relay cabinet was set on fire on the section between Vorotynsk and Kaluga-2. Due to this, the equipment failed, and there was a delay of suburban and two passenger trains by approximately 14 minutes. On April 21, 2023, 18-year-olds Vladimir Zav'yalnov, Mikhail Golodyuk, and Sergei Belyanin, as well as 17-year-old Daria Bychkova, were detained on charges of arson. According to the security forces, they twice set fire to relay cabinets on the railway on the orders of the Ukrainian special services. A criminal case was initiated against the young men for a terrorist act committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. The court sent them to the SIZO. On May 31, 2024, the 2nd Western Military District Court found Vladimir Zavalny and Mikhail Golodyuk guilty and sentenced both to 16 years of imprisonment, of which 3 years to be served in prison and 13 years in a strict regime penal colony. On October 11, 2024, the Appellate Military Court changed the verdict, details are unknown.
