Case Description
At the end of December 2023, FSB officers detained a 19-year-old citizen of Ukraine and Russia, a student at SFedU Danila Yefimov, at the airport in Volgograd. Danil, along with his father and girlfriend, were standing in line for border control. The family planned to celebrate New Year in Turkey. The young man handed his Ukrainian passport to the border guard. He asked if he had a similar Russian one. Danila replied that he did, but only an internal one—he hadn't had time to get a foreign passport before the trip. Then the border guard said that he would not be able to fly on a Ukrainian document, and Yefimov was taken to an interrogation room. Law enforcement officers took the young man's mobile phone and found several transfers to the Ukrainian charity fund of Sergey Prytula in the Ukrainian bank's app, totaling 13 thousand. rubles. Immediately after that, Danila was detained, without saying anything to his waiting father and girlfriend. Yefimova was taken to police station No. 4 and a report was drawn up for using obscene language in that station. The next day, the judge of the Central District Court of Volgograd, Ekaterina Poluboyarova, sentenced Efimova to 13 days of administrative arrest. All this time, the father unsuccessfully searched for Danil. At the police station, they told him that his son was not with them. Only after a day did the police admit that the young man was in a detention facility. After 13 days, at the exit from the police station, Danila was detained again. On January 11, 2024, the same judge sentenced him to another 10 days of administrative arrest for hooliganism in the city center. A few days later, Danila was taken to the office of the police department, where several masked men beat him. Unknown individuals wanted the young man to sign a confession: 'We'll take you to the forest and kill you if you don't sign.'" 5. Efimov refused to sign the documents. January 15, 2024, Danila was escorted to Rostov-on-Don, where he was charged with treason. According to the FSB, the money allegedly transferred by Efimov was intended to purchase weapons, UAVs, radios, and trawls for demining vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The court sent Efimov into custody for the duration of the investigation. On July 2, 2024, the Rostov Regional Court found Danila Yefimov guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in a strict regime colony and 1 year of restriction of freedom. On September 26, 2024, the Third Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction left the sentence in force."
