Case Description
In August 2022, security forces detained Kirill Brik, Yuriy Neznamov, Denis Aydin, Roman Paklin, and Daniil Chertykov in Tyumen, Yekaterinburg, and Surgut. The prosecution claims that Nikita Oleynik "created a terrorist community" due to "hatred for the current state regime" and for about a year involved his friends in the group to "carry out terrorist activities" in the Tyumen, Sverdlovsk regions, and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. Roman Paklin joined the terrorist organization 'Avant-garde of the People's Will,' which was organized by his acquaintance Nikita Oleynik. He conducted "ideological conversations" with members of the organization, setting them against state power, created manuals on handling firearms, searched for training grounds, and wanted to play the role of a terrorist attack executor. Oleinik was accused under the article on creating a terrorist community, and all the others were accused of participating in it. Brik and Aydin were also charged under the article on the manufacture of a homemade explosive device. Young men were sent to SIZO. All six defendants in the case reported torture and violence after their arrest. At the end of July, the defendants in the case were charged with new accusations - under the article on preparation for a terrorist act. In December, the young people were charged with two more articles: illegal manufacture of explosives as part of an organized criminal group and illegal storage of explosives or explosive devices as part of such a group. In April 2024, it became known that the court had declared Roman Paklin "incompetent. Doctors allegedly found a "schizophrenia-like disorder" in Paklin. The court appointed his mother as the legal representative of the young man. During the "treatment, investigative actions against Roman were suspended. On May 16, 2024, the Central Military District Court found Kirill Brit guilty and sentenced him to 8 years in prison, with the first 3.5 years to be served in prison, and the remaining time in a strict regime colony. The court also imposed a fine of 600 thousand on Brik. rubles and restriction of freedom for 1 year.
