Case Description
On August 8, 2023, in Simferopol, a criminal case was opened against local resident Daniil Seryogin for repeated "discrediting" of the army. The details of the charges are unknown. During the search, security forces found marijuana on Daniil, which served as the basis for opening a criminal case against him under the article on drug possession. Earlier, in April of the same year, Seryogin was charged in a case involving an administrative offense under the article on "discrediting" the Russian army for allegedly publicly shouting phrases like "NATO troops will soon enter Crimea" and speaking out against the war. The man was sent to a pre-trial detention center. On September 20, 2023, the Simferopol District Court of the Republic of Crimea found Daniil Seryogin guilty and sentenced him to 1.5 years in a penal colony-settlement. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
