Case Description
On May 10, 2022, security forces conducted a search of Boris Romanov, an activist from the Vyborgsky district of St. Petersburg. A search was also conducted in the activist's mother's apartment. Romanov was charged with a criminal case on "fakes" about the Russian army motivated by political hatred. At the request of the investigation, the activist was placed under arrest. The reason for the criminal prosecution was a statement by representatives of the Svetlanskoye Municipal Formation, at a meeting of which on April 4, Romanov made pacifist statements. In the summer of 2022, the court released the man from the pre-trial detention center, replacing the measure of restraint with a ban on certain actions. Shortly after, Boris left Russia. 28 February 2024, Judge Marina Goryacheva of the Vyborgsky District Court of St. Petersburg found Boris Romanov guilty and sentenced him in absentia to six years in a general regime penal colony. Additionally, the court prohibited Romanov from engaging in activities related to website administration for four years. July 24, 2024, the St. Petersburg City Court upheld the sentence.
