Case Description
Early in October 2023, a search was conducted in Yekaterinburg on a 33-year-old local resident, Boris Budalov. After interrogation at the local FSB, he was released, but immediately detained for allegedly refusing to undergo a medical examination for intoxication. After the 'carousel' of administrative arrests, Budalov was charged with publicly justifying terrorism or promoting terrorism using the Internet network. It is unknown which publications became the reason for initiating a criminal case. In mid-October, the Verkh-Isetsky District Court of Yekaterinburg sent Budanov to a pre-trial detention center, and then to the Sverdlovsk Regional Psychiatric Hospital for a psychological and psychiatric examination. On September 26, 2024, the Central Military District Court found Boris Budalov guilty and sentenced him to six years in a general regime colony. The court also prohibited him from administering Internet network sites for three years.
