Case Description
On November 23, 2023, in St. Petersburg, security forces came to the home of the Ukrainian citizens, the Bogomazovs, with a search. On the same day, 20-year-old Bogdan Bogomazov and his younger brother Vlad were detained. Later, Vlada was released, but for several days, his relatives knew nothing about the fate of his older brother. The mother was calling the law enforcement agencies. In the FSB reception, she was informed that her son had been detained. The young man was accused of preparing for a terrorist attack, aiding terrorism, and espionage. According to the version of Russian law enforcement, Bogdan's friend from Kharkiv asked him to blow up the railway tracks. In addition, under the nickname "Lilia", Bogomazov allegedly called for burning the cars of Russian military personnel on the internet and tried to organize explosions on railways, as well as "provocation using pyrotechnics at a defense plant." The court placed Bogdan in custody. On April 30, 2025, the 1st Western Military District Court found Bogdan Bogomazov guilty and sentenced him to 19 years in a strict regime penal colony. On August 11, 2025, the Appellate Military Court left the verdict unchanged.
