Case Description
On December 17, 2024, in Moscow, at a house on Ryazansky Prospekt, as a result of an explosion in Moscow, the head of the Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defense Forces of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, and his assistant, Major Ilya Polyakov, were killed. The explosion occurred when the men were leaving the house. The explosive device was built into the scooter that was standing by the wall. On the same day, the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Moscow initiated a criminal case for the murder of two servicemen on the fact of committing a terrorist act that resulted in the intentional causing of death to a person, as well as for the illegal circulation and manufacture of explosive devices as part of an organized group. On the following day, December 18, 2024, in the Moscow region, 29-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan Akhmadzhon Kurbonov and Batukhan Tochiyev were detained. On December 23, 2024, 37-year-old Robert Safaryan was detained. On January 14, 2025, in Ingushetia, 25-year-old Moscow native Batukhan Tochiev and 22-year-old Ramazan Padiev were detained. The defendants were accused of committing a terrorist act by an organized group, participating in a terrorist community, illegal circulation and manufacture of explosive devices, as well as undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities. According to the investigation, Kurbonova was recruited by Ukrainian special services to carry out a terrorist attack for a reward of 100 thousand. dollars and obtaining documents for residence in the EU. As a result of the explosion, Igor Kirillov and his assistant Ilya Polyakov were killed. The defendants in the case were placed in a pre-trial detention center. On January 21, 2026, the 2nd Western District Military Court found the defendants guilty and sentenced Akhmadzhon Kurbonov to life imprisonment with the first 10 years to be served in prison, and the remainder in a strict regime colony, and a fine of 1 million. rubles.
