Case Description
On October 5, 2018, a criminal case was opened against 46-year-old local resident Bagavudin Omarov in Makhachkala. He was accused of organizing the activities of an extremist organization. According to the investigation, Omarov, under the influence of the literature of the ideologue Mustafa Shukri, created a branch of the organization 'At-Takfir Wal-Hijra' in Makhachkala. Participants at branch meetings discussed the establishment of world domination by radical Islam and the creation of a "World Caliphate" in Russia, interpreted prohibited religious literature, called for ignoring Russian laws, and declared "takfir" (accusation of unbelief) against those who did not support their ideology. On November 1, 2018, Omarov was detained. KiROVSKY DISTRICT COURT OF MAKHACHKALA HAS CHOSEN PREVENTIVE MEASURE IN THE FORM OF DETENTION. On February 20, 2021, Judge Gadis Gadisov of the Kirovsky District Court of Makhachkala found Bagavudin Omarov guilty and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment and one year of restriction of freedom. Taking into account the time spent in the pre-trial detention center, the court considered the punishment served. Omurova was released from custody right in the courtroom. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
