Case Description
A criminal case was opened in the occupied Donetsk region against Aviy Motola for participating in an armed conflict against a citizen of the Swiss Confederation and the State of Israel. The date the case was opened is unknown. According to the Russian investigation, in 2022 in Ukraine, Motola signed a contract and as a mercenary joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He underwent military training, was provided with personal firearms, ammunition, and other means of material and technical support necessary for his participation in the armed conflict. For monetary compensation, Motola, following orders from higher command, participated in combat operations against the power structures of the DNR, LNR, and military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. It is claimed that during his service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the serviceman received compensation amounting to more than 2.7 million rubles. At the request of the investigation, the court in absentia chose a measure of restraint for Motola in the form of detention. He was placed on the international wanted list. The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic found Aviy Motola guilty and in absentia sentenced him to 14 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict regime correctional colony. The verdict was not appealed and entered into legal force.
